Water Withdrawal Permitting in Ontario

Environmental Compliance - Michigan
Windsor, Ontario

Project Need

A developer planning a new concrete batching plant in Ontario required provincial approval to withdraw water from the Detroit River. To meet Ontario Water Resources Act requirements, a Permit to Take Water (PTTW) was needed to authorize the daily withdrawal of up to 250,000 gallons for industrial use.

Services Completed

Lord & Winter prepared and submitted a PTTW application to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. The team calculated withdrawal rates, detailed water return and monitoring procedures, and prepared mapping to show the intake location and surrounding features. A Water Conservation Schedule was also developed to document water efficiency goals and best practices.

Issue Resolved

The permitting effort allowed the client to move forward with the design and planning of a major industrial facility while meeting all water use and conservation requirements. Lord & Winter’s support ensured that regulatory expectations were addressed clearly and efficiently, reducing the risk of delays during project approval.
