road expansion Permit Support
Environmental Permitting - Louisiana
Project Need
A proposed roadway expansion in Baton Rouge required federal and state environmental permitting prior to construction. As part of the city's MoveBR initiative to relieve traffic congestion, the project involved widening a 1.84-mile corridor. Environmental clearance was necessary to address wetland impacts, species protection, and cultural resources prior to development.
Services Completed
Lord & Winter supported the project by coordinating and consulting on permitting activities with the US Army Corps of Engineers (New Orleans District) and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. Services included preparation for a Section 404 permit application, a 401 Water Quality Certification, and the submission of both a desktop endangered species review and a desktop cultural resource review. All work followed relevant federal and state permitting guidelines and was completed by qualified environmental professionals.
Issue Resolved
By handling permit coordination and guiding consultation with federal and state agencies, Lord & Winter helped the client move through the regulatory process efficiently. Early-stage review of protected species and cultural resources helped anticipate permitting needs, avoid delays, and align the project with environmental compliance standards—clearing the way for progress on this major infrastructure improvement.
