Nashville Marine Terminal: Environmental Permitting and Site Assessment

Project Need

A shipping and logistics client planned to transform a 22-acre parcel into a marine terminal on the Cumberland River in Nashville. To do this, they required comprehensive environmental permitting, including Section 10/404 and Section 401 WQC permits, and exhaustive natural resources studies to ensure the sustainability and legal compliance of the proposed development.

Services Completed

The Lord and Winter team undertook a detailed field wetland and watercourse survey as part of their natural resources studies, using cutting-edge GIS software for accuracy and reliability. This was instrumental in the creation of an in-depth hydrologic determination report. They also navigated the complexities of securing both the Section 10/404 environmental permits and the Section 401 WQC permits.

Issue Resolved

One of the key deliverables was a highly detailed map indicating the wetlands and watercourses identified during the survey. This visual tool provided immediate clarity for both the client and relevant government bodies, illustrating the environmental considerations within the parcel. This expedited understanding and decision-making regarding the property’s viable use and the terminal's potential location.
