Project Need

A commercial real estate development and logistics company engaged Lord & Winter to address environmental compliance concerns at a 24-acre industrial site. The site, used for cement-related activities, was operating under an incorrect industrial classification and was under a Notice of Violation by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).

Services Completed

Lord & Winter conducted a full facility inspection and collaborated with the site’s Facility Manager to identify outfalls, assess existing stormwater controls, and document needed improvements. The team performed baseline stormwater sampling and analysis during a qualifying precipitation event, and developed a Corrective Action Plan with site-specific erosion and runoff control measures. The firm also prepared and submitted an updated Industrial NPDES Permit Application, revised to reflect the correct Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code. Finally, a new Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) was created and submitted, complete with a PE-stamped site plan and BMP descriptions.

Issue Resolved

Lord & Winter’s work set the foundation for resolution of the existing Notice of Violation by providing updated stormwater permitting documentation, actionable mitigation strategies, and improved site management practices.
